Taking place in a poker tournament online might be daunting the first few times you give it a try; if that is the case for you, or if you like the idea of playing with a few handfuls of people instead of a few hundred, then you might consider trying out Sit N Go's, the nickname given to single-table tournaments. Of course, "single table" is not always accurate, if there are more than 10 players, but it is a lot closer to single table than "Multi-Table Tournaments" where there is a crowd of tables.
Sit N Gos, or SNGs, are like virtual home games (unless your routinely squeeze 50 or more people into your living room for a tournament). Due to the smaller player size the game has a more intimate feel, and with a lot less moving of players from table to table to keep the game even as people bust out, you get to know the players you face a little better, too.
SNG players are often fairly loyal to this form of poker tournament, so if you start playing a lot of them in the same buy in range (from $1 to $5, for example) you have better odds of playing the same folks more than once, which gives you a shot at using all those poker notes you should be taking as you play.
Home games are typically less intimidating and less cutthroat for new players who are into poker as much for the fun as the money, so a SNG might feel more like home than a Multi Table event. They are also typically shorter events, so you can squeeze one in a bit easier as well.
For those of you who like your home games, or perhaps would like to have a home game but don't have enough players, the Sit N Go form of tournament poker might just be for you. |
